Do you want to earn money online without selling anything? Do you have a blog or own a website? Are you interested in monetising that website to earn a profit from it? If so, then Google AdSense might be exactly what you’re interested in. Earning money from your blog/website can be incredibly profitable and engaging. It allows you to make a true living off of what you enjoy. One route that you can take to monetise your work is to use Google AdSense. If you are interested in potentially earning a lot of money through your blog, then read on and find out how Google AdSense can help you.

What is Google AdSense

Google AdSense is a way of earning money via a partnership with Google. It allows you to display pay per click Google ads on your website. Google takes a significant portion of the ad revenue and gives you the rest. There are two different ad types that you can display, these are:

  • Pay per click: This is simply an ad that gets you money for each click. You won’t get any money if people aren’t clicking on the ad, but they are usually worth more per user.
  • Pay per impression: This is an ad that pays you every time a user views the ad or the webpage with the ad on. These aren’t worth as much as PPC.

You can freely decide how many ads you place on your website, where you place them, what type of ads you want. You can also freely accept or deny ads from companies to display. Once you have been approved for an AdSense account you will then be able to generate codes for advertisements and then add those codes to your websites.

Advantages of Google AdSense

There are a number of benefits to using Google AdSense to monetise your blog. These include:

  • A huge degree of customisation: You have free control over how many ads you place on your website in addition to where they go and what they are. If you don’t want to accept a particular advertisement to post on your website, you have no obligation to post it. Google AdSense also offers 15 different sizes for ads, allowing you to use whatever size is appropriate with your layout.
  • Accurate and swift results monitoring: While other advert networks will periodically update your earnings report, Google AdSense will display them in real-time (or as close as possible). You will be able to accurately track any variables you could want to clearly see what areas you are succeeding in and where you are lacking. This data will allow you to adjust your ad strategy on the fly and achieve better results.
  • Allows you to focus on your content: Google AdSense is very easy to apply for and the ads are very easy to set up. Since you don’t have to worry about the implementation of your ads, you can focus on what is most important, your content. Through fully committing your effort to your content you can improve the rate of traffic acquisition for your site.
  • Great for users with multiple pages of content: If you are someone who wants to create a lot of content over many pages then Google AdSense could be perfect for your needs. All you need is one account and you can keep track of all of your pages easily.

Disadvantages of Google AdSense

Despite the numerous advantages of Google AdSense, it does have its drawbacks. These include:

  • It takes a long time to start earning money: The money that you earn from your ads is based on how many users see/click on the ad. In order to earn a significant amount of money through this program, you need to have a strong amount of traffic on your website. Getting your website up to a point where the traffic is very high will take quite a long time. This means that you will need another source of income for several months until your blog is established.
  • Google takes the majority of the ad revenue: While it is uncertain exactly what percentage of the money you get; we do know that it is very low. It is probably less than 10% of the total money earned by the ad. So even when you do start making money, you aren’t making as much as you would like.
  • Your earnings can be inconsistent: Ultimately your earnings are heavily reliant on a steady flow of traffic to your platform. If something changes such as the search algorithm, or if you lose traffic for any reason, then you will notice a drop in revenue. This can make it very difficult to plan out your budget since you could lose money due to factors outside your control.
  • You will need to be at the top of your SEO game: You aren’t just writing for your readers; you’re also writing for the search algorithms. People need to be able to find your website in order to access it and create revenue for you. In order for your blog to be found it has to appear on their searches, so you need to rank highly on searches to increase your odds of being found. Even if you’re an expert writer, your efforts will have been for nothing if you don’t appear in searches. We have training on search engine optimisation that you can go over, this has been created by experts.

Getting approved for Google AdSense

While signing up for Google AdSense is a simple process, simply requiring you to go to Google’s website here and filling in the short sign up process, getting approved is a wholly different affair. If you are new to this industry then you experience some trouble getting approved for adverts. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Your site will be manually reviewed by a human: You need to convince the Google employee reviewing your website that your site is of high quality. It’s no good having a site that hits the sweet spots of the various algorithms if it doesn’t also appeal to people. Make sure your site is user-friendly and engaging.
  • Have a large amount of content before applying: If your site isn’t large enough it simply isn’t worth googles time. Larger sites attract more people and keep their attention for longer. If you do end up getting rejected, this is most likely the reason why. Create a few more pages for your website and try again, don’t get discouraged.
  • Make sure your site is focused: Become an expert at one subject rather than spreading yourself thin. These types of websites are seen as far more valuable then websites that try to cover a little bit of everything, especially when the websites in question are small.
  • Don’t apply too early: Build up some consistent traffic to your website before applying. There is no point in applying if you don’t have any traffic to earn revenue from. It will also give you time to develop other key aspects of your website.
